In their own words
Robert Baines
Pattaya, Chonburi
"I'd been putting off looking at my pension arrangements for years because I didn't know where to start. The worksheet session gave me a clear structure. I left with a document I actually understand, which is more than I had before."

Siriporn Lertchai
Chonburi
"The helpline has been genuinely useful. I'm not someone who enjoys reading official documents, so being able to call and ask a simple question in plain language has taken a lot of the stress out of this. I wish I'd known about it earlier."

"The Community Hub is the part I look forward to most. It's not just about pensions — it's about being in a room with people who get it. The peer circles are where the real conversations happen. I've learned as much from other members as from any official source."

Janet Thorpe
Sattahip, Chonburi
"I appreciated that nothing was pushed at me. I've attended workshops elsewhere where you can feel the pitch coming — not here. The facilitator just answered my questions and pointed me towards the right place to look. That's what I came for."

"The worksheet was more structured than I expected. I thought it would be a chat, but it was actually a proper document-building exercise. I left with something I could use — a summary of my own situation in my own handwriting."

Carol Hutchins
Bang Lamung, Chonburi
"Six months into the Community Hub and I've built a small circle of people I actually trust to have these conversations with. That's harder to find than you'd think. The monthly sessions give us a reason to keep meeting, and the topics are always relevant."

Case Studies
How it worked in practice
Case Study — Take-Stock Worksheet
The Challenge
A retired British expatriate living in Pattaya had three separate pension arrangements from different working periods, plus some personal savings. He couldn't remember the details of each one and didn't know how to begin getting a clear picture without speaking to an adviser — which he wasn't yet ready to do.
The Approach
He attended a Take-Stock Worksheet session. The facilitator guided him through the worksheet's sections — types of arrangement, providers, rough amounts, access dates — without asking him to share documents or commitments. He worked at his own pace. Where terms were unclear, the facilitator explained them.
The Outcome
He left with a completed worksheet — a personal inventory he'd created himself. He used it two weeks later in a call with an independent adviser, who commented that it made the conversation significantly more efficient. He felt in control of the meeting in a way he hadn't expected to be.
"I thought the worksheet would feel like homework. It didn't. It felt more like tidying a drawer — satisfying once it was done."
Case Study — Community Hub
The Challenge
A recently retired Thai national had returned to Chonburi after working abroad for many years. She felt disconnected from the retirement planning world and wasn't sure which questions to ask or who to ask them of. She knew she should be more organised but didn't know where to begin.
The Approach
She joined the Community Hub. Over the first three months, she attended four gatherings — two peer circles and two talks. She initially came as an observer but gradually became more active in discussions as she saw that others were in similar situations.
The Outcome
Nine months later, she described the Hub as her most consistent source of practical knowledge on retirement topics. She had also formed a small group with three other members who met informally between gatherings. The sense of isolation she'd started with had largely lifted.
"I wasn't sure what I was looking for when I joined. I think I just wanted to be around people who were thinking about the same things."
